But physical comedy, bodily functions and even racism were all used for laughs. For a modest budget of $5 million, Clark was able to bring his teenage raunch-fest to the big screen.įhe film’s highly sexualized scenes - including high-school coaches copulating, a legendary peephole scene and the ensuing grabbing of a boy’s “tallywhacker” - earned most of the attention. Even after the success of 1978’s Animal House, executives were leery of producing a sex-filled comedy focused on high-school students.Įventually, Clark was able to secure financing through a Canadian firm, with the caveat that the movie had to be filmed in the there in order to obtain government tax benefits. Together, Clark and Swaybill hammered out a script, but they were unable to garner any interest from Hollywood studios. About an hour into the original narrative, I became convinced that I was sharing in the birth of a major moment in movie history: It was the funniest film story I had ever heard.” “When Bob was in bed with mono in the summer of 1979, he suddenly began dictating the story of Porky’s to me,” Swaybill continued, "and for four days, he dictated into a cassette recorder. ![]() Still, it wasn’t until illness briefly derailed Clark that the screenplay really began to take shape. “Everybody who knew Bob knew that he was obsessed with doing this picture.” Since she is singing a great 80s song while listening to a Walkman and the film just missed the ’80s by 86 days, I wanted to at least give Pretty Woman an honorable mention.“Bob carried this brilliant vision around in his head for more than a decade before starting to put it on paper,” Roger Swaybill, who co-authored the script to Porky’s, told the Los Angeles Times in 1985. I am talking about the one when Julia Roberts is wearing headphones and singing along to Prince’s “Kiss” (an ’80s song!) while relaxing in a bubble bath. It does have one of the best bathtub movie scenes and I am not talking about the one when Richard Gere joins her in the tub. Pretty Woman just missed being an ’80s movie since it was released in March of 1990. Here is OLD SCHOOL’S TOP 25 SCENES FROM ’80s MOVIES FEATURING THE BATHTUB and/or SHOWER : And not just the gratuitous nudity scene that was forced into many films especially earlier in the decade (like in Stripes, Porky’s, or almost any R-rated comedy). Now that certainly was not an ’80s film (though its first two sequels were in 19), but the ’80s did have its share of memorable movie scenes in the tub or shower. Probably the most unforgettable and the first one that comes to mind would be the shower scene with Janet Leigh from the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho. Whether you have realized it or not, throughout the history of cinema, there are many scenes that take place with a shower and/or bathtub as an essential part. ![]()
